About UTM Link Builder

UTM parameters tell Google Analytics exactly which campaign a visitor came from. Without them, email and ad traffic collapses into the vague direct or referral bucket and you cannot tell which spend actually worked.

How to use UTM Link Builder

  1. 1

    Enter the destination URL.

  2. 2

Set source to the specific sender such as newsletter or instagram, and medium to the channel type such as email or cpc.

  3. 3

Choose a campaign name — this is the label you will see in your Analytics report.

  4. 4

Copy the generated link and use it in that campaign.

Frequently asked questions

Why should every value be lowercase?

Google Analytics is case sensitive, so Email and email are reported as two different campaigns. Pick one convention and stick to it or your reports fragment.

What is the difference between source and medium?

Source is the specific sender, like instagram. Medium is the channel type, like social or cpc. One answers where from, the other answers what kind of channel.

Should I add UTMs to internal links?

No. A UTM on an internal link restarts the session and wipes the original acquisition source, corrupting your Analytics data.
